We meet at the All Sports & Community Club, 1 Leagues Club Drive, Nerang on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:00pm for a 6:30pm sharp start. The formal part of the evening finishes at 8:30pm.

This is an opportuinity for you to mingle with people of all ages who also share your interest in Magic.

There are 3 different types of meetings that we have: Regular, Workshop and Lectures. If you would like to attend any of them please book here

As a visitor you are most welcome to come to any of our meetings. The cost for attending as a visitor is $10.00 for an individual and $15.00 for a family (up to 2 adults and 2 children). Lecture nights, where we may have a famous or semi-famous Magician, speak with us, will cost a visitor $25.00 for an individual and $35.00 for a family (up to 2 adults and 2 children).

What Happens at a Regular Meeting?

Well the first thing we do (or try to) is start on time at exactly 6:30pm, and that is with the Magicians Oath. It is important for us to protect the secrecy of magic as an art form. What makes magic 'Magic' is the fact that we do not reveal effects to non magicians or those who have not taken the oath. So if you are going to come to our meetings you will be expected to be willing to take the oath which goes a little like this:

"As a magician I promise never to reveal the secret of any effect to a non-magician, unless that one swears to uphold the Magician's Oath in turn. I promise never to perform any effect for any non-magician without first practicing the effect until I can perform it well enough to maintain the illusion of magic."

After that we check out member news, club announcements and other incidentals.

Thoughts of the Day
Everyone stands one at a time and lets us know in 30 seconds or less:
  • Who you are
  • What you do
  • What field of magic most interests you
  • and a thought for the day
As Magicians (or aspiring Magicians) we need to build our confidence, public speaking ability and creativity. This is the first and easiest opportunity we have to do that. Of course you may choose to abstain and remain an enigma but then you won't win the thoughts prize will you?

3 Minute Spot
3 minute spotThere are two slots available for Members or Junior Members to take their confidence boost one step further by expanding on their thoughts. All in attendance can learn a little more about you. With 3 minutes at your disposal you can let us know about:
  • Who you are
  • What you do most of the time
  • Your interest in magic began when....
  • The type of magic you enjoy the most is......
  • My favorite trick is ....
  • and then you can perform it if you have the time available
If you are a Member or a Junior Member and would like to be our next 3 minute spotter click here.

After 2 of those we move onto the section called:

How Did You Do ThatHow Did You Do That?

Another privlege of membership is involvement in this session. It usually lasts for about 10 minutes and it's where a Member or Junior Member shows us an effect and then provides an explanation of how it is done by way of a quick tutorial. This offers real value to those who don't know the trick and also provides others with alternate ways to do the trick.

We need to vet the performers before hand so if you would like to have ago at this please click here.

By this time we are at about 7:30pm and just in time for our last segment which is called:

Show us a trickShow Us A Trick

This is a chance for Members or Junior Members to show us a trick they have been working on. Again a privlege of membership, the assumption is that you think you're ready to perform this effect in public and this is a great place to start.

You see this section includes feedback from friends.

Others in the audience who have a great deal of experience are going to help you to hone your performance by offering hints on how you can improve your presentation.
This feedback can be either public or private. If public (in other words, right after your performance) you will also be helping others. If you would like private feedback, just ask any of the experienced people there and they will be glad to help you.

Better you get feedback from experienced performers who know what you need to do, than get the old "I KNOW HOW YOU DID THAT" from someone who is not a Magician's "you know what". Make sense? If you would like to partake in this segment of the meeting please click here to find out more.

The End
And that is the end of our meeting (around 8:30pm) although you are welcome to hang around and chin wag with anyone there.

Workshop Meeting

Rubber bandsThe workshop meeting is much the same as the above, except for the last section from 7:30pm to 8:30pm where we will run up to 3 simultaneous 20 minute workshops. These will be repeated 3 times thus giving everyone the opportunity to attend to all 3 sessions or concentrate on the one or two you are really interested in.
Workshops include such subjects as
  • A specific trick with props that you can make up on the night and learn
  • A range of effects such as rubber band tricks
  • Balloon sculpturing
  • Card Manipulations
Senior Members can apply to run these workshops and if possible the Workshop Leader should provide written notes on the construction of any gaffs and explanations of the routine. There may be additional costs associated with materials at Workshop Meetings.

Lecture Meeting

Again much the same as the General Meeting except that to give the Lecturer more time we do not include the 'How Did You Do That' section or the 'Show Us A Trick'.

A Lecture is usually run by a famous Magician and you can look at our photo gallery to see some of the Magicians we have had in the past. Lecturers will usually show you a trick, show you how it is done and then offer for sale the effects with DVD explanations and gaffs.

Genearlly there is no cost for a Member to attend Lecture Meetings however from time to time, when we land a big name (who may require payment) we will advise the cost of the meeting. You should always bring your wallet because often the lecturer will have great effects for you at great prices.
